WHAT'S NEW IN HOW'S IT GOING? V4?

 

MORE CUSTOMIZATION TO SUIT YOUR INDIVIDUAL NEEDS

1.      Change the names of all the project components, and many of the fields that appear on screens and reports throughout the database

2.      New User tables to allow you to define allowable values for:

§         Project classification codes

§         Issue Class, Issue Type, Issue Status

§         Activity and Milestone Status

§         Activity ID and Activity Problems

§         Deliverable Class

§         Change Request Type, Priority, Status

§         Lessons Learned definitions

3.      Project ID size increased to up to16 characters

4.      Specify minimum and maximum password size

5.      Specify number of working hours per day and week, and whether work can be scheduled Saturdays and/or Sundays

6.      Select default time recording format as weekly or monthly timesheet, or daily log

7.      Enter the address of your logo and the logo will appear on most reports

 

NEW ACTIVITY and MILESTONE SCHEDULING FEATURES

1.      New Activity Scheduling Capabilities:

2.      Ability to link Milestones Activities, Issues and/or Deliverable due dates. HIG will automatically adjust Milestone planned completion dates to meet linkage constraints.

 

NEW TIME PLANNING AND TIME LOGGING FEATURES

1.      Time budgets are created automatically when resources are assigned to a project or activity. Specify a percent of time each resource will spend on an Activity or on the project and HIG will calculate the planned number of hours to be spent

2.      Weekly and monthly timesheet screens and reports are now available

3.      System administrator can specify default time sheet format and charge rate for people who log time, with ability to override by project and/or activity

4.      New non-project time categories available for User defined categories such as sickness, training, etc.

 

 

MORE FLEXIBILITY IN CUSTOM REPORTS

1.      More flexibility in choosing the data to appear in the reports because you can now select multiple entries in many of the list boxes on the report and project selection screens

2.      Your logo can appear in the upper left corner of most reports

3.      New MSWORD Project Description report – HIG will create the Project Description report directly in MSWord, using a MSWord template that you can modify.

 

NEW AUDIT TRAIL CAPABILITY

1.      The system will keep an audit trail of changes to project components and data fields, including who made the change, when it was made, the field changed, and the before and after data values.

2.      The System Administrator can specify which component changes are to be recorded in the Audit Trail

3.      New Custom format Audit Trail reports selectively lists changes made to a single project, or to selected multiple projects.

 

NEW ACRONYM DEFINITIONS CAPABILITY

The new Definitions table gives you a place to define acronyms, technical jargon, or words related to project management.Users can find the definition of terms at any time by clicking the Definitions button in the upper menu bar on all screens throughout HIG

 

NEW GUIDED TOUR CAPABILITY

The “guided tour” capability is an easy to use form of the HIG help facility that you can turn on or off at any time. When the Guided Tour facility is on, a small, moveable, explanatory help screen will appear as you move through the H.I.G. screens.

 

EASE OF USE ENHANCEMENTS

Our users already love HIG because it is so easy to use, but we found more ways to make it even better:

  1. A new color scheme for forms and a new look for reports
  2. Project Menu screen redesign gives all functionality on one screen
  3. Project Description, Activities, Milestones, screens incorporate plans and status in the same form, to eliminate “jumping” back and forth.
  4. Project Roles and Time Budget screens are merged into a single “Assign Project Team” screen that automatically sets up Time budgets for project staff when required. When assigning staff to a Project Team, you can see where else they are currently assigned.
  5. Find issues quickly by clicking column heads on the Issues Selection Screen to sort issues by different fields.

 

NEW SECURITY FEATURES

  1. Two new Security levels:

§         Review (and not update) Only Projects where you have been assigned a team role

§         Upate activities, review project data and log time to projects where you have been assigned a team role

  1. Ability to specify whether or not an individual can create new projects
  2. Ability to specify whether or not an individual is allowed to sign projects out of the main database for offsite use
